"Sometimes Sorry is Not Enough" - Stand Up for Aboriginal Rights

RE: Aboriginal postcard campaign: Sometimes Sorry is Not Enough… Stand Up for Aboriginal Rights

Sisters and Brothers,
At the first Aboriginal Peoples' Conference in Winnipeg, delegates launched a new postcard campaign to draw attention to a series of issues facing Aboriginal Peoples. This is your opportunity to sign the card on line and tell the federal government that you expect them to take urgent action on these important initiatives.

The areas of this campaign are:

• Aboriginal Poverty: that the Conservative government respect its commitment to the Kelowna Accord and restore $5.1 billion for housing, education and economic development.
• Drinking Water: that the Conservative government meets basic daily needs for potable water in at least 108 Aboriginal communities.
• The UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples: that the Conservative government join 145 progressive world governments in recognizing this UN covenant on human rights.
• End gender discrimination against Aboriginal Women and their families: that the Conservative government recognizes equality for Aboriginal women and drops its appeal in the Supreme Court of Canada in the Sharon McIvor case.

The Sometimes Sorry is Not Enough campaign, initiated by the Public Service Alliance of Canada, and supported by the Canadian Labour Congress and its affiliates, is asking that cards be signed and returned, postage free, to the Prime Minister by June 21st of this year.
