Volunteer to be an instructor in the New Worker Awarenenss

In 2008, over 60,000 young workers, ages 15-24 were injured on the job in Canada. 60 were killed.

You can help by volunteering for the USW New Worker Awareness program.

The New Worker Awareness program was designed to help prevent injury and death by increasing awareness among young workers and the community.

Steelworker volunteers are trained to conduct short in-school health and safety seminars for high school students. How can your local union help?

Are there students near you who are not benefiting from the Steelworker Young Worker Awareness program? Its a great way for interested members to become active in the community. The union will provide all the student and instructional support material you need to get started.

Call or email and we’ll help get you started. Contact the USW Health and Safety Department at 416-544-5994 or email nwa@usw.ca

Every day, three workers die because of an accident or illness at work. Hundreds of thousands currently are sick or injured because of their job  – many because they were new to a job and unaware of the hazards.  It could be your brother, your daughter, a friend, or you.

These days you don’t need to be a first-time worker to be starting a new job.

The United Steelworkers Union is on your side.  Be part of a new movement to make work healthier and safer for everyone.
